Counselling and psychotherapy is a process whereby the client and counsellor work together to bring about positive change or to enhance the wellbeing of the client. This is done through engaging with a professionally trained counsellor in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental setting. Although this is mainly done through talking, other interventions and approaches can be used in order to suit the individual client.
The minimum age I work with is 18. There is no maximum age.
An information session is a chance for the counsellor/Therapist to collect all the relevant information that is required prior to starting therapy. It also gives a chance for us to see if we feel we are able to work together.
Each counselling session will last 50 minutes, the number of sessions required is difficult to determine, as this really is an individual thing. However this is something that can be discussed during your information session and can continuously be discussed during your counselling journey.
Each 50 minute counselling session will cost £45, payment is usually by cash or bank transfer.
Trust is a very important part of the relationship between client and therapist. Everything that is brought to the session will remain confidential unless any of the following apply:
The client gives written consent to pass on information.
A court order is received requiring information to be disclosed.
Information is passed in relation to terrorism.
Whereby the client appears to be in danger to themselves or other people.
However if confidential information is disclosed you will be informed of this prior to the disclosure wherever possible. At the start of therapy you will be asked to sign a form to confirm that you have agreed to this confidentiality contract.
From time to time, things crop up meaning you may need to cancel your appointment. I ask for a 24 hour cancellation notice. If this is not made I may charge for the cost of the session. This not only protects the counsellor/therapist but also your commitment to the process.
